Inviting your Friends and Family to Join your Wedding Party

8 Months Before your Wedding: Inviting your Friends and Family to Join your Wedding Party

One task the bride and groom have is choosing groomsmen and bridesmaids to represent them on their big day. Both groomsmen and bridesmaids have a lot of things to accomplish from their list of responsibilities. Asking your friends or family to play this role will vary from one couple to another and the friendship dynamics you have. You also need to consider the personalities of the different people you want to be on this special day with you.

It is always preferred that you both talk to each other before you talk to your friends to be part of your wedding. You first need to agree on the number of people you will need; it doesn’t always need to be an even number. And while you will not always agree on each other’s choices, you must make sure that the community gives you the chance to work out the differences before the wedding is set.

Here is a list of everything you need to know when asking your groomsmen and bridesmaids to be part of your wedding.

Pump the Brakes

If your engagement is long, do not worry about getting your bridesmaids and groomsmen right away. Friendships may shift in this time. The last thing you want is to have to backtrack the offer you made originally or settle with a person you did not wish to. Ask people one year or at least eight months ahead so that they have time to prepare themselves.

Choose Wisely

Amongst your long list of friends, you want to choose just a few who will represent you adequately. You need to think long and hard about who you want to represent you on your special day. While that new friend is great and understands you, it is always recommended that you stick to a friend you have known for years. Play it safe. Keep in mind of the uncertainties and the changes that may occur. In a year, that new friend may no longer be as close to you as they are. If you want to add them later on, you can still do so after you have known them better.

Maintain A Bit of Formality

Sure, these are your friends, and you have known them forever. It is always a good idea to ask your bridesmaids and groomsmen in a formal way to represent you on your wedding day. It may be tempting to take the casual route and email or text them. However, you need to make a point to call them, schedule a meeting and talk to them in person.

Tune Out Obligations

Every wedding is different. Therefore even if your friend may have attended other weddings, they may still be interested in being part of your line up. You may choose all the people on your team to be family members. You may also host a small wedding and will only need one or two people from both sides. The main choice should be that you are comfortable with your choice and who you choose to make part of your memories forever.

Create a Groomsman Box

You need to have a starter pack that will include a tie bar, a shaving kit, socks and cufflinks. The groomsman box is a wooden tin that will have all the items they love from a watch to an engraved lighter.

For the bridesmaids, you can have a mini make-up kit, mini wine bottle, pictures of dress options and a picture of you and each lady to showcase your relationship.

For both men and women, you need to choose something that will show that you really know them.

Host an ‘I do’ BBQ

It is always great to have fun with your wedding party and what a better way than a barbecue? Make sure you send the invitations and let them know they are the guests of honor. You can ask them at this dinner.

Inject Some Humor

Weddings can always be a tad too serious and exhausting. The only way to ensure that members of your team are not bored is to remain lighthearted. Find clever ways to ask them to be part of your team and keep it interesting throughout.
