Your honeymoon is an important part of the wedding even though it happens after the wedding. A well-planned honeymoon is a good time for you and your spouse. As always while planning, be sure to include both of your opinions, and come up with compromises. Another option is one of you giving the spouse a surprise honeymoon. Who wouldn't want that?
Well, regardless of who is planning for the honeymoon, here are some tips to help make it successful.
The first step of any planning process is to determine your budget. Just like your wedding, you need to have a budget for your honeymoon. Set aside an appropriate amount for your honeymoon, and don’t touch it! If unexpected costs happen for your wedding, then cut somewhere else, but keep the honeymoon money safe! Always remember that your wedding night is for a night, but a honeymoon is a multi-day, multi-week trip.
In this series, we have highlighted that you need to make decisions with your spouse and that includes making honeymoon decisions. Do you both want to go to an exotic, tropical island? Or does one of you perhaps want to visit some cold, mysterious destination? If only one of you is satisfied with the destination, then it’s not a honeymoon at all. Be open about your travel needs and be ready to listen to what your partner wants. When you find it hard to agree on something, you can try to compromise, for instance, 1 week at a tropical resort, and 1 week at a spiraling metropolis.

Relaxing is necessary for any couple after getting married. All that pent-up stress and frustration during the planning needs to be exerted somewhere, and that’s what the honeymoon is for. Relaxing is different from lazying around. You can relax and have fun on your honeymoon. Having an adventure on your honeymoon is a great way to relax and make fun memories that you can add to your wedding memories.
The best way to make sure all your honeymoon plans go smoothly is to plan early. Try to avoid peak seasons and make your reservations before the rest of the crowds do. Not only will you save money but you will also not have to compromise on some of your luxury choices as they will still be available.
As spontaneous as you want to be, it is better to plan ahead for your honeymoon. Don’t wing your plans, write them out and set a pseudo-schedule. This way both of you have an idea of what things will happen when but won’t feel like you are being forced to do things. It will also not put a strain on your finances. When you do not plan for things, you end up spending more than you could if you planned.
Leaving for the honeymoon after your wedding seems like a tradition of sorts, but i does not mean that you have to do it. It’s your honeymoon and you decide what and when you want it to happen. Do not let anyone pressure you to make honeymoon plans according to their plans.
If you find it hard to take time off after your wedding, you can wait until the time is right. If you want to have a destination honeymoon, you might find that the place is full. You can wait until it is off-season for you to make your honeymoon arrangement. It can even save you some money.
