Flowers are a necessary part of any wedding. Their natural fragrance and beauty accentuating the room, you and your spouse, and your guests in an artificial environment lead to striking contrasts which then lead to unforgettable memories.
Ideally you already have a budget aside, if not, most wedding couples use between 5%-8% of their wedding budget on the flowers. Some things you will spend on for floral arrangements will be the bouquets, centerpieces, and floral decorations/accents around the room. If budget is an issue, green, non-flower plants are an excellent option. The idea behind flowers is using natures beauty, so almost anything goes!
The Florist for you will depend on what you need. You may want a florist specialized for wedding, a Wedding Florist, or a normal one. A specialized florist will cost more than an unspecialized one, so remain cognizant of this fact. In most cases it is best to go with a Wedding Florist, as their specialized experience will help you not only plan your wedding and décor, but also assist in costs and deciding tough decisions. A good tip is to reach out to people whose wedding’s you’ve attended in the past and ask them how they found their florist, or who their florist was. Research online and look for reviews and samples of work as well.

While you shouldn’t need to become a florist yourself, knowing a little about flowers, the language of flowers, and their costs/availability will go a long way when talking to your florist. Not only will it help their impression of you, but you and your florist will be able to make far more informed decisions. Not needing your florist to explain simple details about certain flowers will also save both of you an enormous amount of time. So, study ahead!
Choosing a bunch of samples off Pinterest or Instagram and showing them to your florist isn’t the most helpful thing you can do. While it will help your florist determine your preferred style and tastes, it won’t help you getting disappointed when a certain flower isn’t available at the time. Becoming familiar with the flowers as detailed in the previous tip, and their seasons is necessary for making informed decisions about your bouquet, décor, and will also help you in saving money, as asking for out of season flowers is far more expensive than in-season ones.
Planning ahead is great but give it a little time before you finalize your designs. Always determine your flower scheme after you’ve determined larger details such as your wedding’s colors, theme, and general aesthetic. Sometimes you may end up changing a certain detail, but since you’ve already planned your flowers around that detail, you will either have to rearrange the flower scheme or just go with it. Once again, to avoid this, give appropriate time to ensure you are set on your design.
